Enchytraeid Identification Services and Ecotoxicological Tests

Strategic bioindicators with the highest global taxonomic expertise.

Ecological importance applied to environmental assessment

Enchytraeid (Enchytraeidae), known as microworms, are essential organisms for the functioning of soils. They act in the decomposition of organic matter, in the cycling of nutrients and in the maintenance of the structure and fertility of the soil.

Because they are directly linked to these processes, impacts on entreids can quickly indicate changes in the environmental quality of agricultural systems.

Why use them in ecotoxicological assessments

These organisms are recognized as strategic bioindicators because:

  • High sensitivity to soil contaminants
  • Respond quickly to environmental changes
  • allow for more agile and lower-cost tests
  • generate robust and ecologically relevant results

Our services

We offer:

  • performing ecotoxicological tests with enquitreids
  • technical interpretation of the results
  • support for the inclusion of this data in regulatory dossiers

Specialized taxonomic identification

The identification of enquitreids is a highly specialized activity. There are currently only three taxonomists in the world with consolidated expertise in this group – and one of them is part of the ECx team.

This allows us to offer a rare service of high scientific value to:

  • Soil quality monitoring
  • environmental studies
  • regulatory and research projects
